Shoyu Chicken

Tender-Hawaiian Shoyu Chicken braised in a savory-sweet soy sauce glaze with garlic, ginger, and a touch of brown sugar. Slow simmered until juicy and deeply flavorful, with a rich, glossy finish. A comforting island classic that pairs perfectly with rice and simple sides.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 pounds skin-on bone-in chicken thighs (about 6 pieces)
  • ½ cup shoyu soy Sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 3 garlic cloves smashed
  • 2- inch knob of ginger peeled and sliced
  • 3 green onions slice/separate greens & whites
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Method
 

  1. Add a bit of oil to frying pan, and brown chicken (skin-side down) until the skin is a deep golden color.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, mix shoyu, brown sugar, water, and rice vinegar.
  3. Transfer chicken to a slow cooker, and our the liquid mixture over the chicken in the sauce pan.
  4. Add in the smashed garlic, sliced ginger, and white parts of green onion..
  5. Set slow cooker on low, and cook for 6-8 hours.
  6. Serve the chicken over a big bowl of white rice. Garnish with green parts of green onions and top with sesame seeds.
